Where’s the Beef?
Ask Top 2017 Don Diego Scholar Sarah Drown!
Vivacious, intelligent, focused, brimming with enthusiasm, and seldom seen without her trademark wide smile, Sarah Drown modestly describes her many accomplishments as “humbling.”
Sarah recently captured a sought-after position as Associate Director of Organizational Communications at Denver-based National Cattlemen’s Beef Association fresh out of Oklahoma State University, where she graduated in May 2021 with degrees in Agriculture Communications and Agribusiness plus a minor in Farm Appraisal.
In 2017, Sarah captured Don Diego’s $5,000 FFA and $5,000 Spanjian Family Scholarships. She’s been capturing awards and amassing accolades dating back to early days when she was an FFA leader, raised market sheep and goats, participated in tennis and equestrian pursuits, and graduated eighth in her Ramona High class. She continued her winning ways at Oklahoma State, where she excelled academically and served as Collegiate Beef Advocate for American National CattleWomen.
“I loved Oklahoma and now I love living in Colorado,” Sarah reports. “My job is amazing and fast-paced. I oversee production of a monthly newsletter and biannual magazine, and coordinate with teams that produce educational, advocacy and publicity material on digital platforms. Education is my passion. The scholarships were immensely helpful and represented encouragement and support of my aspirations.”
Beef is in Sarah’s blood and fortitude runs in her Tulloch family of backcountry cattle ranchers for more than a century. When her grandmother, Betty Ann Tulloch, could not join the then male- only California Cattlemen’s Association in which her husband, Bill, was active, she created the Cow Belles, who among their many endeavors served up delectable beef dishes at the San Diego County Fair.
Now, when Sarah comes home for a visit, her family knows what to make. She enthuses, “My dad grills up the best tri-tip!” We surmise she eats it with salad and “ranch” dressing.
