Meet Thoroughbred Owners Marsha Naify
and Samantha Siegel at A DAY AT THE RACES

Don Diego Scholarship Foundation is delighted to present “A DAY AT THE RACES: CELEBRATING WOMEN IN HORSERACING” on November 23, 2019 at the Del Mar Racetrack.

The event, which begins at Noon, honors owners/breeders Marsha Naify and Samantha Siegel, who will be celebrated in the Winner’s Circle after they crown the winner of a race named in their honor.

Tickets for this signature event of the Fall Racemeet are $200 if purchased by November 15; $250 thereafter.

A DAY AT THE RACES takes place in the penthouse-level Il Palio restaurant. Guests will enjoy preferred parking, gourmet buffet and convenient sixth-floor wagering. They also will have an opportunity to meet and mingle with horseracing celebrities; foremost among them, the two honorees.

Marsha Naify is the CEO and Founder of Long-Beach-based Liberty Road Stables, LLC

Her father, Marshall, was an iconic figure in horseracing. His daughter has paved her own path focusing on breeding. An active owner since 2000, Marsha Naify has notched many victories; her 2018 record features 62 starts and five wins. Over the years, her winning horses have included Dublino, Amorama and Blackdoun, which was named 2004 Horse of the Meet at Del Mar. In 2007, Marsha Naify became the first woman to head the Thoroughbred Owners of California board. She also is committed to helping retired racehorses live a good life. In addition to operating Liberty Road Stables, she is the CEO and Founder of Surf and Sand Properties, LLC.

Samantha Siegel has been affiliated with JAY EM ESS Stable, which she now heads, all her life.

Samantha Siegel, who lives in Beverly Hills, comes from a family steeped in horseracing. Her parents, Jan and Mace, met at a blind date at Aqueduct Racetrack, married in 1962 and purchased their first horse in 1964. A pedigree and conformation expert, Samantha Siegel continues the family penchant for blue and lime green silks and horses with intriguing names such as Include Me Out and Masochistic. Declan’s Moon captured the 2004 Eclipse Award as the nation’s top two-year-old male, and undefeated Del Mar and Hollywood Futurity winner. She serves on the Thoroughbred Owners of California board and is treasurer of the CARMA horse retirement organization. During 2018, JAY EM ESS amassed a racing record of 213 starts and 29 wins.

A DAY AT THE RACES proceeds will kickstart the creation of Don Diego’s Joe Harper College Scholarship, which will be given annually to students associated with the Del Mar Racetrack. Joe Harper is Director/President/CEO of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, which he has led since 1978, as well as a founding/continuing member of Don Diego’s Board. He was named 2019’s Nice Guy of the Year by the San Diego Nice Guys Club, an organization that helps local people who have fallen on tough times get back on their feet.
